Flat roofing also comes with a lot of disadvantages and is one of the roof types that can degrade fast or will require regular maintenance. This is because flat roofs tend to hold water on its surface much longer than other types of roofs before it drains or dries away. Some other disadvantages of flat roofing are:
- Unreliable in cold weather conditions
- Higher chance of early replacement. Generally last 10 years only
- Provides lesser space for insulation
- Slower draining of water
We at Kennedy Roofing Ltd Ayrshire also provide repair and maintenance services for flat roofs. Regular monitoring, proper maintenance, and timely repair of damages can help to prolong the life of flat roofs to some extent.
Felt Roofing Ayr, Ayrshire
Felt roofing is a type of roofing in which the base of the roof is made up of natural materials like wood cellulose or synthetic ones like polyester or fiberglass. This base is then saturated or coated with a protective layer like asphalt, which has water-repelling properties and at the same time, is breathable.
Felt roofs are one of the cheapest options in flat roofing but do not provide very good aesthetics. Some of the advantages of felt roofing are:
- Is lightweight and can be used even on simple and small structures like sheds, extensions, garages, etc.
- Can save money as the materials for felt roofing come at a very cheap rate
- Easy to patch and repair and is less costly
- Can be easily made to cover any space and can be made into any shapes quickly and easily
Felt roofing, though being a good and cheap solution, comes with its disadvantages as well. Some of them are:
- Lasts less compared to other types of roofs. Around 10 – 15 years
- Prone to damage by extreme weather conditions. Can deform when exposed to too much sunlight and become brittle during the winter
- Repairs can be a bit scruffy
Overall felt roofing is a great option and if you need any repair or installation services of felt roofing you can contact Kennedy Roofing. All our workers have great experience in this field and will do your work to your complete satisfaction. Contact us for a free quote.
